OSU Bass Fishing: Tournaments

2009 Big Ten Classic: Tournament Summary

Friday:
The team had 3 boats get on the water and search for fish independently. Battling high winds (25mph steady with 45mph gusts) each boat was able to find fish.

Saturday:
All 5 of our boats were able to get on the water for another practice day. Again, we searched for fish independently and all boats were able to find fish. Due to our confidence in our patterns, we pulled off the lake early and took a few hours of down-time.

Championship Sunday:
All 5 boats were ready to go on Championship day which meant we were already doing better than last year. The boat of Jason Founds/Matt Archer was able to boat several fish early, but none of them met the 14" minimum requirement. The story was much the same for all other boats. The wind started picking up at 10am and made main-lake fishing nearly impossible in the deeper parts of the lake. Only 2 fish were brought to weigh-in...1 from Jason Founds and 1 from Matt Bores. This was enough to secure a 6th place finish.

Tournament Summary:
The wind presented a challenge all 3 days of the trip, but plenty of fish were caught. Since our members are so used to a strategy for catching 12" keepers instead of 14" keepers, we seemed to struggle to find the larger fish. All things considered we were satisfied with our finish because we were only 1 bite away from 2nd place which speaks volumes about the conditions.
